Who can attend Naranga?

Naranga School caters for the needs of students with a mild intellectual disability.

This is measured by:

  • an IQ score between 50-70
  • Vineland adaptive behaviour score below 70

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

Students must be deemed eligible for support from the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) under the Intellectual Disability category. We require a signed report from a psychologist containing a current cognitive assessment (not more than 2 years old), and a current Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scale (not more than 1 year old).

 

What does Naranga offer?

A specialist educational setting which caters to the educational and social needs of students aged from 5 – 18 years who have a mild intellectual disability.

 

What’s on the curriculum?

Naranga is guided by the Victorian curriculum. As students progress to the senior school they participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and/or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

 

How is progress assessed?

Student progress is assessed using standardised tools and the Abilities-Based Learning and Education Support (ABLES).
Student Support Group meetings (sometimes called Parent-Teacher meetings) are held at least twice a year to discuss progress and determine future learning goals.
